What you are actually buying when you buy geomembrane

Two rolls of 1.00 mm black HDPE can look identical on a truck and behave completely differently after five years in the sun. The difference is resin grade, carbon black dispersion and the antioxidant package — none of which you can see.

That is why every consignment we supply comes with a mill certificate that ties back to the roll numbers on your delivery note. Density, thickness, tensile properties, tear and puncture resistance, carbon black content and dispersion, and oxidative induction time are all recorded against the batch, so a consultant can check the sheet against the specification instead of taking a brochure on trust.

We supply geomembrane in UAE markets in the grades that are genuinely used here: 0.50 mm through 3.00 mm, smooth for water containment, single or double textured where friction on a slope matters, and white-surfaced sheet where reducing surface temperature and glare is worth the extra.

Ask for this on every order

A mill test certificate carrying the roll numbers delivered to your site. If a supplier can only produce a generic product data sheet, there is no way to verify what arrived.

Smooth or textured — and when it matters

The choice is about friction, not appearance. On a flat base, smooth sheet is easier to weld, easier to inspect and cheaper. On a slope, smooth sheet can let whatever sits on top of it slide.

Choosing the surface finish
FinishUse it whenWatch out for
SmoothBase of reservoirs, exposed water storage, ponds you will need to clean, any slope flatter than about 1V:3HOn steeper slopes, soil cover or protective layers can creep downslope
Single texturedSlopes where cover material sits on top of the liner but the underside is against a prepared subgradeOrientation matters — the textured face has to point at the material it must grip
Double texturedLandfill side slopes, capping systems, steep containment cells, liner sandwiched between two soil or geotextile layersSlightly harder to weld and inspect; trial welds should be run more often

If a consultant has asked for a specific interface friction angle, the honest answer is that it has to be measured for the actual sheet and the actual soil. Direct shear testing to ASTM D5321 can be arranged before the material is released.

Roll sizes, weights and getting the material onto site

Geomembrane arrives as heavy rolls on a core, not as folded sheet. A 7 m wide roll of 1.5 mm HDPE can weigh well over a tonne, which makes offloading the first practical question on any delivery.

  • Offloading plant. A telehandler or excavator with a stinger bar through the core is the normal method. Slinging a roll around its circumference will damage the edges.
  • Site access. Confirm that a flatbed can reach the working area. On farm reservoirs and wadi sites this is often the constraint that dictates roll length.
  • Storage. Rolls stay on their cores, off the ground, and are not stacked more than two or three high. Sheet stored flat in the sun takes a set that shows up as waves after deployment.

We plan the roll schedule from your drawing so that panel widths suit the structure and the number of field seams is kept down. Fewer seams means less welding, less testing and fewer places for a leak to start — the roll schedule is a quality decision as much as a logistics one.

For sites with restricted access, sheet can be pre-fabricated into larger panels in a controlled environment and delivered folded on pallets. It costs more per square metre and saves a great deal of site time on awkward jobs.

Answers for specifiers & buyers

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for HDPE geomembrane?

Practically, one roll. Because material is manufactured and shipped in full rolls, part-roll orders are only possible when we are already cutting that width for another job. For very small areas — a garden pond, a bund repair — pre-fabricated panels cut to your dimensions are usually the better route.

Is your geomembrane GRI-GM13 compliant?

GRI-GM13 is the industry specification for smooth and textured HDPE geomembrane, covering thickness, density, tensile properties, tear and puncture resistance, carbon black content and dispersion, stress crack resistance and oxidative induction time. We supply material certified against it and issue the mill certificate with each consignment. Property values are listed here.

Do you supply white or reflective geomembrane?

Yes, white-over-black sheet is available. The white surface lowers the liner's surface temperature significantly under Gulf sun, which reduces thermal expansion wrinkling during installation and makes defect inspection easier. It costs more per square metre and is worth it mainly on large exposed areas.

How is the material packed and delivered?

On rolls with a central core, wrapped and labelled with the roll number, thickness, length and batch. Delivery is by flatbed; you need a telehandler or excavator with a stinger bar to offload. We confirm roll weights before dispatch so the right plant is on site.

Can you match a geomembrane already installed on my site?

Usually. Send a photo of the roll label if you still have it, or a sample of the existing sheet with a thickness measurement. Matching thickness and surface finish is straightforward; matching resin exactly is not always possible, though for repairs and extensions compatible HDPE welds perfectly well.
